Bellville at a glance
The Bellville area is one of the oldest within the Northern suburbs of Cape Town and its history dates back to when it was founded as a railway station which was situated almost exactly 12 miles from the centre of Cape Town. It was first known as "hardekraaltjie" in 1861 but the area was renamed to Bellville after the surveyor general of the area Charles Bell.
