Bellville at a glance

The Bellville area is one of the oldest within the Northern suburbs of Cape Town and its history dates back to when it was founded as a railway station which was situated almost exactly 12 miles from the centre of Cape Town. It was first known as "hardekraaltjie" in 1861 but the area was renamed to Bellville after the surveyor general of the area Charles Bell. Stikland is a small industrial area located within greater Bellville. Today the area is one of the most centrally located in the Northern suburban region of the province. Some of the suburbs that border Bellville and Stikland include Durbanville and Kraaifontein.

Industrial Hotspots

Bellville is a highly industrialized area. One of the most industrial hotspots is keenly located at Stikland. Which is home to formidable industrial operations such as Entrade Valve and Engineering Supplies, Autospot Motocare, PG Autoglass and Bellville Glass Centre. Some of the main roads for industry in this area include Belrail Road and Strand Road.

Bellville and Stikland are highly developed industrial and commercial areas hence there are many nodes and precincts that are dedicated to industry and development, one such recently developed is the Bellville Velodrome Development, the Bellville Industrial Park and the Bellville Business Park. Some of the roads that connect the industrial area near Stikland Industrial include La Belle Road, Climor Street, Kouga Street and Willow Road.

If one wishes to travel from Bellville to the Cape Town International Airport it takes roughly 16 minutes and is around 10.8km in distance. Bellville from the central business district of Cape Town will take roughly 34 minutes and is 23.3km away depending on the route. From the Stikland Industrial area, it will take roughly 34 minutes to get to the CBD and is 35.5km in distance. From the Cape International Airport it will take roughly 18 minutes and is 21.2km in distance.

Popular shopping locations include the Middestad Mall, Bellville Station Shopping Centre, Tygervalley Shopping Centre, Willowbridge Mall, Nobel Park Shopping Centre and Ipic Shopping Centre.

Transport

The Northern suburbs are connected from the central business district of Cape Town via bus services such as Golden Arrow. There is also a MetroRail train service to Bellville. One can also take one of the many minivan services that operate through many places in and around the mother city and rest of the country.
