MANUFACTURING IS ON THE RISE IN SOUTH AFRICA

It is clear from an increase in inquiries for manufacturing plants at API Property Group, that investors are showing a keen interest to invest in local Manufacturing.

According to an article in Brand South Africa, regardless of the Corona virus disrupting our economy, South Africa's manufacturing sector still contributed 13% to the GDP and almost 50% to the total export earnings in 2020. Our manufacturing sector provides investors with an established industry and infrastructure, advanced technologies and well-placed location. Niche industries like beverages, food processing, wood products and motor manufacturing are ripe and ready for such investment.

The Manufacturing Circle and Deloitte partnered to conduct a local survey to understand our local issues better and become a roadmap for our country to compete on a global scale in future. Taking hands with Government and other key stakeholders, they hope to find solutions through improved Manufacturing processes for a better outcome.

To quote Karthi Pillay, a Manufacturing Industry Leader from Deloitte: "In these globally competitive times, I find myself asking, what will South Africa and indeed Africa be famous for 15 years from now?  I believe the answer is Manufacturing. Manufacturing is amongst the top three multiplier sectors in terms of value addition, job creation, export earnings and revenue generation for every R1 invested."

The request for large-scale industrial properties in the 10 000 square metre and higher bracket is growing, and due to scarcity in this bracket, investors are also looking into building such properties from scratch.

It won't be easy to address the huge demand for these types of properties, and many issues will need to be addressed, but there is huge potential and we at API Property Group experience an optimism and eagerness from numerous inquiries in this regard.
