The Centurion Aerospace Village set to revolutionise the industrial property market

South Africa could arguably be considered the most industrious country on the entire African continent and a bold new development which backs up this statement is The Centurion Aerospace Village (CAV) which is a non-profit company and an industrial park project which is run by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Its goal is to launch the aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing industries in South Africa into orbit and beyond.

According to www.cav.org.za – “The CAV is an intended Hi-Tech Advanced Manufacturing Cluster and Industrial Park Development with a shared services model and value proposition aimed at attracting and retaining foreign and domestic direct investment for both manufacturing tenants and service providers”.
Developments such as this will always have spin-offs, how will a project of this magnitude aid in building supporting industrial areas and the local economy of Centurion in general?  According to Lance Schultz the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the project they have extended the mandate to include other industries. “With the advances in things like composites, titanium and other lightweight components and artificial intelligence, we have extended the mandate to afford high-tech advanced manufacturing companies to also co-locate into the CAV. It's a point of departure (from the original concept), but it's still allowing a group of like-with-like technologies, so it's not dissimilar from a number of parks of its type in the world” – States Schultz.

Location The Centurion Aerospace Village is set to be located on the corner of Van Der Spuy Road and Van Ryneveld, Ave a stone’s throw away from other crucial businesses in the area including Aerosud which is widely considered to be one of the biggest

manufacturer of aircraft parts and assemblies on the African continent. CAV is situated roughly 20kms from the centre of sprawling suburban and industrial area Centurion. Roughly 67.6 Km from the central business district of Johannesburg and 38.4km from the OR Tambo International Airport. It also has close proximity to other prevalent Industrial Parks in the area including the Gateway Industrial Park, which is situated on Sarel Baard Cres, Rooihuiskraal. It’s also less than 10km from the Centurion Gautrain station making it extremely easy to access.

Leading industrial and commercial property brokerage firm API Property Group who have properties for rental at the Gateway Industrial Park are excited for this new development and believe it can help in furthering the rigorous industrial growth in the area. “We have long sighted Centurion as an area that could well follow in the footsteps of other slightly more developed economic areas such as Sandton, API Property Group as a company already has a keen interest in the area, with various industrial properties for sale or rental in and around the location that has been earmarked for this exciting industrial development the CAV, this will enable us to see concrete proof of aggressive economic development in the area, which is positive for those looking to rent or buy industrial property in Centurion” – says Stephanus Weyers, Director and Principal of the company.

The project is still in the process of procuring further investment and no set date has been assigned for completion. However certain plots of land have already been reserved for potential tenants.
With so much development planned around the Centurion area, it seems it’s a great time to invest in this sought after location.
